Ford Diesel Performance

Here at Five R, Ford Powerstroke diesel performance is the center of our performance business. We specialize in Powerstroke performance from 1994-2003 Superdutys including the 7.3 and the new 6.0! No matter which truck or year you have, we can give you better performance and in most cases, fuel mileage.

We have carefully chosen the products listed below to obtain the best performance safely. We all know you can turn up the Powerstroke to deliver great horsepower and torque increases. But there are a lot of unsafe products out there that deliver too much fuel and build too much heat, especially up here at 5200 feet.

Check out the products listed below for your Ford Superduty Powerstroke. Most of our prices are so low we do not even advertise them! To request a price quote from Five R use the Contact Form.

Ford 6.0 Attitude Monitor
The Attitude Monitor from Edge gives you total control over the power module, including 2 (up to 125 horse!) additional power levels, and performance testing. The most important part of the Attitude Monitor is the ability to set a certain EGT point, and, if the temperature exceeds that, the Attitude Monitor automatically reduces power to protect your motor. The Attitude Monitor alleviates the need for gauges to monitor EGT and boost!

Modified Air Inlet Turbo Housing Advanced Turbo Systems is a leading manufacturer of diesel performance products. This modified air inlet turbo housing is a great addition to your Powerstroke. What ATS has done is to increase the air inlet to a 4" diameter verses 3" diameter on your stock Powerstroke. This will decrease turbo lag and help the turbo spool up quicker due to the increase in air available to the turbo. Compressor flutter is also reduced, and the air flow is smoothed out.

Powerstroke ball bearing turbo For you folks who want the ultimate in turbos, we have a selection of hybrid turbos available for your Superduty Powerstroke. These turbos utilize different air inlets, compressor wheels, and in some cases, a full ball bearing race. Quicker boost, more boost, and increased responsiveness throughout the RPM range are traits of these turbos.

ATS wategate turbo housing The ATS wastegate turbo housing has an external adjustable wastegate that is accessible and easy to adjust. Exhaust gasses pass through a separate chamber and advance through a wastegate valve before entering the scroll, or volute section of the turbine housing. This maintains exhaust gas velocity for faster turbine spin up and throttle response, and it alleviates back-pressure. It gives an 8 to 12 horsepower increase to the rear wheels. The ATS wastegate turbo housing is a true bolt-on replacement part. For city and mountain driving, throttle response is excellent.

ATS intercooler upgrade The ATS intercooler for the Ford Powerstroke diesel, can reduce air intake temperatures over 200 degrees and lower exhaust temperatures over 150 degrees while towing. Theoretically, for every 10 degree drop in air intake temperature, an engine can increase performance 1%. For example, reducing the air intake temperature 200 degrees would equal (200 * 1%) a 20% gain in performance. In addition, lowering exhaust temperatures can increase engine efficiency, extend life and reduce engine operating temperatures. Testing the intercooler while towing has resulted in the ability to pull the same grade in the next highest gear at approximately 5 to 10 mph faster.

ATS Ford propane injection system Advanced Turbo Systems is a leading manufacturer of diesel performance products. The Torque Pro 2000 propane system has been designed to increase horsepower and torque along with increased fuel mileage. Propane injection work to condense the air fuel mixture and you will burn almost 100% of the diesel fuel, instead of the 75 to 80% of the fuel you burn currently. Propane injection can be used to pull those long hills better, or to increase fuel mileage around town. The system has multiple built in safety features and comes on only when your engine has a Hobbs pressure switch adjustable between between 3.1 to psi so that the propane turns on only when you need it. The propane system turns off when you turn the key off, so you do not have to turn the tank off every time you get out of the truck. A performance 4" exhaust is highly recommended when installing a propane injection system.

ATS adjustable propane orifice ATS also makes a very unique addition to the Torque Pro 2000 propane injection system, the adjustable orifice. From inside the cab of your truck, you can adjust the flow of propane from 0 flow, to the full flow of a 1/4" orifice which is about twice what the stock orifice is. The knob inside the cab uses a cable to accomplish this. The knob can be turned, or also pulled to go to full opening for a quick burst of power, then let go, will return to the original setting.

Autometer gauge column pod  Autometer gauge pillar
Autometer Sport Comp gauge  Autometer Lunar gauge
Autometer Phantom gauge  Autometer Cobalt gauge
Autometer Ultra Lite gauge
Gauges are critically important especially when you are modifying your Powerstroke. The three most important gauges are boost, exhaust gas temperature, and transmission temperature.

The boost gauge can tell you when your are having a air inflow problem to the turbo, and also when there is a problem with the factory computer "defueling" the motor. Defueling means that the computer sees an abnormal situation with the motor, and actually pulls fuel out of the injection cycles to avoid a serious problem. Without fuel, you will not get any, or hardly any boost.

Exhaust gas temperature (EGT) monitoring is critical to the lifespan of your diesel. Excessive EGT's will result in shortened turbo life along with many other engine components.

Transmission temperature monitoring is critical to the lifespan of your diesel's transmission. Heat is a leading killer of your transmission. When the fluid is out of safe operating temperature range, torque convertors get ruined, clutches burn up, other parts can warp and ruin your transmission.

Having the gauges mounted where you can easily see them is critical. That is why we mount most guages on the A-pillar (the winshield pillar). You can glance over and see the gauges easily without taking your eyes off the road. We only use Autometer 2 1/16" 270 degree sweep electric gauges and pods for all our diesel applications. You can choose from any of the different Autometer gauge styles including Sport Comp, Ultralite, Lunar, Phantom, C2, Cobalt, and many others.

Performance & Extreme Duty Transmissions Well, you have all that power now, how are you going to get it to the rear wheels? The answer is an extreme duty transmission and torque convertor! The Ford EO40D transmission is good for regular duty applications, but could sure use some beefing up. We can do just the front half of the transmission, torque convertor, valve body mods, transmission commander which includes exhaust brake controls. Or we can do a complete extreme duty rebuild with the above mentioned components along with a complete rebuild with extreme duty clutches and all other components. Call or e-mail us for recommendations!
